THINK TWICE before renting car @ HAWK Rental (Kelantan)!

Here's our terrible experience with the Hawk rental and some advices for the fellow travelers.

Before we decide on the car rental company for our Kelantan trip, we actually ask around and got to know that Hawk rental is actually not a bad choice in terms of the service and car condition. So we just go ahead to rent the car from them for 7 days.

Maybe we are inexperience when comes to car renting. Thinking back, we should have been more careful when they offer to send down the car to us in town which is about 15mins away from their main office at the airport. Little did we know, the staff already drove around town with our rented car to have his takeaways for breakfast. (Saw bags of food on the car seat when we get in the car)

We should be firm with the staff when the fuel tank indicator was already reduced by 1 tab as we got the car delivered to us. And don't ever believe a friendly staff's verbal statement without black & white. The staff who send us the car told us the drive from airport already used up 1 tab of fuel, so when we return the car, the fuel tank was also short of 1 tab of fuel.

Anyway just as we expected that they might play cheat on that fuel tank issue. It's only fair that we return the car that was reduced on the fuel tank indicator, and the staff charged us RM20 extra for 1 tab . Just to fill you in a little bit about the fuel rate in Malaysia if you don't know. A full tank of fuel cost about RM50 which has 8 tabs on the fuel tank indicator for that car model that we rented. However RM20 worth of fuel can almost fill up half of the fuel tank.

RM20 is probably a small amount of money to some of you. But money asides, credibility of staff that represent the company is the part that truly matters!

So here's some advice for you:
1. Always ask them if there'll be extra charges if they offer to deliver the car to you.
2. Always take a video of the car condition when they go through the car check before pick up your car.
3. Always have a full tank of fuel when pick up and return the car to avoid unreasonable extra charges.
4. Always bargain for discount, if you are going the rent the car for more days or during off season
5. Always check the clause in car rental agreement before sign off the documents.

THE BEST car rental service in Kota Bharu, guaranteed.
To those who are not familiar with the local attitude/culture, please bear with the staff if you feel a bit uncomfortable. Thats how i felt in the beginning years knowing them.
In my opinion, show people the respect you wish to receive and they will return it for sure.

Been using their services for 3 years straight now, highly recommended.

Take care of their cars, because they ensure that their fleet is in superb condition all the time.

Pros: +friendly and helpful office staff +clean cars +responsive service

Cons: -had a bad experience with the staff outside the arrival hall, they told me without checking there was no cars to rent, even though it was only 8am.

Overall, good car rental service. Has been renting from them since the handful of times in Kelantan. Don't go to counter at arrival hall, just head straight to office by the airport entrance.

Cars rented come with full fuel and upon return of the cars you need to fill up the fuel to full tank otherwise charges of the fuel up to full tank will be imposed. Only credit cards accepted here. Condition and quality of the cars are very good. It will check scratches and dents before renting the cars to you so please double check with the agents in charge and bring torch lights if you are renting at night.

Inform customer in advance that inter-region travel is not allowed via online booking form, mobile applications, email, phone calls and information disclaimer on the official website. Customer does not like nasty surprises! Front office staff subtlety blame the customer for not telling hawk that he intended to travel inter-region whereas the onus / responsibility is on the staff and Hawk to inform beforehand. Any blame game or accusation towards the customers will not work and result in business-losing situation! Even if you won the argument with the customer, you will lose business from that customer and other customers in the future! Customer who is treated poorly will tell other potential customers (negative adverse word-of-mouth marketing)!!!
